Mark Your Dance Calendar

Do dancers hibernate in winter? There's an explosion of dance activity coming up as January draws to a close. Had we but world enough and time, we'd go to all these shows, but time's chariot won't permit us to make up all the stops. Here's the wealth you have to choose from:

misha.jpgJanuary 25 - 27: The Bridge Project @ Velocity Dance Center. Two young Seattle choreographers and one team (Kristina Dillard, Kelly Sullivan, and Violette Tucker and Misha Kaschock), with the help of Velocity's 2008 Choreographer in Residence, Mary Sheldon Scott, had three weeks to create a brand new work. Tickets: $15.

2007romeo2.jpgJanuary 31 - February 10: Roméo et Juliette @ Pacific Northwest Ballet. The sizzle hits the stage at PNB -- Jean-Christophe Maillot's full-length contemporary ballet comes with a warning that its "content may not be appropriate for young children." No word on how racy the Prokofiev score is. Tickets: $20 to $150.

February 2: Buttrock Suites @ the Triple Door. God how we love Buttrock Suites -- we interviewed them last year and we're gonna do it again for these two shows. The Triple Door should be the perfect venue. Tickets: $16 in advance/$18 at the door.

February 22 - March 2: The Theater of Needless Talents @ Spectrum Dance Theatre, Madrona. Choreography by the fiery Donald Byrd and music by the brilliant Erwin Schulhoff drive this performance series of music, dance, and cabaret inspired by the works of artists interned at Terezin, the Nazi concentration camp used to demonstrate to the international community how well the Jews were being treated. Tickets: $18 advance/$20 at the door.
