Seattlest Beer of the Week: Anderson Valley Winter Solstice

This week's beer is one that we really just did not expect to enjoy all that much; we have no idea why. We passed over our bottle of Winter Solstice multiple times and it sat in the bottom of the fridge for about a month before we finally got around to drinking it. It was worth the wait.
Anderson Valley Brewery from Boonville, CA is probably best known for their outstanding Hop Ottin' IPA. They show their versatility in brewing the Winter Solstice, which is dominated by malt. The beer pours dark amber with a thin head and the aroma of light spices and sweet malt is inviting. The taste is a wonderful tone of sweet caramel mixed with vanilla that seems to melt in your mouth. The finish is a bit spicy with minimal bitterness. A bit of alcohol burn isn't out of place (6.9% alcohol). It was absolutely fantastic with our beef stew last night, and it would pair well with a wide variety of dishes.
You should be able to find the Winter Solstice in 12 oz bottles and six-packs at grocers and better beer stores all around Seattle
We will be a repeat customer for sure, and we just might follow it up with a pint of the Hop Ottin' as well. We'll make sure not to drink too many, or else we might end up like that Drunky-McDrunk snowman in the photo.
