American Idol Northwest Shout Out: Kristy Lee Cook

American Idol Season 7 started last night, in case you've had your head in a hole this week. The first episode recounted the folks and freaks that turned out for auditions in Philadelphia, so we're not surprised that no one from Seattle showed up.

There was, however, a glint of hope for our geographical neighborhood in the form of Kristy Lee Cook from Selma, Ore. She's 23. She's a horse girl who camps, fishes and kickboxes. She has a lovely head of hair and the sweetest voice we've heard from someone who's not already raking in the dough. She looked nervous as hell while singing "Amazing Grace", but she finally pulled it together and worked out a nice little minor chord descent on the "wretch like me" part. Check it:

We seriously doubt she's a lady-lover, so we hope she doesn't mind us proclaiming our love-at-first-song. But we'll put money on her making it to the Top 10. Way to go, Oregon!
