Kielbasa and Cheese 42, Seahawks 20

This fall we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook. On Sunday morning, following a trip to a local farmer's market/major supermarket chain, we will be preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks' opponent. Then at halftime we will throw our badly burned hands in the air and make hot dogs.

Seahawks vs. Kielbasa and Cheese preview

Our Kielbasa & Cheese recipe called for name-brand kielbasa, mass-processed french bread, and American cheese.

Perhaps that'll fly in a Wisconsin parking lot, but we live in Green Lake--by covenant, we must make meals with high-quality ingredients from local vendors.

So, Saturday morning, it was off to the Market!

First stop was Bavarian Meats, for the kielbasa (and a snack of Kinder egg).

Next stop was Le Panier, for demi loaves (and a splash of coffee).

Then DeLaurenti's, where the cheesemongers recommended asiago for sweetness and meltability.

See how we cooked, and the final product, after the jump.

The raw materials

Easy-squeezy. We pulled the BBQ into the garage (but left the door open, so we wouldn't die).

Butterflied the kielbasa so the cheese would have a place to live.

Ready for the cheese, now

Never skimp on the cheese

Melty, just like the DeLaurenti's guy said!

On a bun (untoasted) and drizzled with BBQ sauce per the recipe. Yum.

Yum.

Yum.

Yuck.

With the Seahawks' loss, that concludes our season of cookin' and football. Thanks for playing along. Look for a little recap post next week.
