The Growing Legend Of Tony Wroten

We saw Garfield High ninth-grade basketball phenom Tony Wroten make the most incredible dunk last Tuesday, but as we'd been assured by a KING 5 cameraman that they'd caught it on tape, we didn't want to waste words describing it.

Check out this video. The dunk comes about halfway through.

That video doesn't quite do the play justice, the camera loses track of Wroten at the last second--probably because everyone in the gym jumped to their feet in anticipation at the same moment.

After the dunk--man, we wish you'd been there. The place went absolutely nuts. The people who weren't staring slackjawed in disbelief were screaming and hitting whoever happened to be nearby. Some guys above us were chanting "You-Tube, You-Tube."

We turned to our friend, who looked like he'd just seen Bigfoot riding a tiger, and said, "Six dollars. Can you believe we only paid six dollars for this?"

If you haven't seen Wroten play yet (and you probably haven't, because only about 200 people come to the games, and they are the same faces every time) you are, to put it as plainly as we can, dumb.

Wroten's Garfield Bulldogs play Woodinville tonight at 8pm at Old Lincoln High in Wallingford. The entrance to the gym is on 44th and Woodlawn.
