Beer Resolutions for 2008

Yeah, we've got the same lame resolution as everyone else for 2008: Eat healthier and get to the gym more often. But, as we sit here drinking our first beer of 2008, a 6 month old homebrewed stout, we realized that we need a few beer goals for 2008. Following are a few things we plan to accomplish in the following year.

1) Finally make that trip to Walking Man Brewing in Stevenson, WA. Some of the best beer we've had in the NW has come from this brewery, and we have been trying to make it there for some time now. It will definitely happen in 2008.

2) Head back to the Great American Beer Festival for the 3rd consecutive year. After this past year's festival, we weren't so sure we were going back in 2008. But, who are we kidding? We're hooked. We'll just be doing it a bit smarter this year; definitely no Saturday night session.

3) Spend more time in Portland. We only made one weekend trip to Portland in 2007, which just isn't enough. This year, we plan to finally hit the Oregon Brewer's Festival and make at least one or two other weekend trips to visit brewpubs/beer bars.

4) Get back in to homebrewing. We moved from the world of renting and not caring if we made a bit of a mess, to the world of owning a place that we're scared of spilling beer all over. Not to mention, we have next to no storage space at the new place. We're not sure how we'll do it, but we need to get a few batches brewed this year.

5) Attend the Great Canadian Beer Festival in Victoria, BC. We have never been before, and it seems like a great opportunity to sample brews from north of the border.

6) Enjoy all those great Seattle beer festivals. Seattle International Beer Fest, all the barley wine fests, the cask beer festival, winter beer fests....we are truly lucky to have so many opportunities.

7) Count the days until Russian River Brewing Company beers hit the Seattle market. We should start seeing their beers here soon, probably April, May or June. We're already excited.

8) Host our own beer dinner. We've been to a few beer dinners at local restaurants, but we've never done our own beer dinner for friends at home. We're thinking 5 courses with 5 beers and keep it to 4 people. We like to cook (Which this Seattlest's girlfriend LOVES), and we love beer...seems like a splendid idea.

9) Read more about beer. We read a decent amount, especially when taking the bus to work. We've been trying to read more beer related books and am starting 2008 with the two we received for Christmas: Beer School and Fermenting Revolution: How to Drink Beer And Save the World. We also need to check out the library to see what they have.

10) Convert at least one person from a macro beer drinker to a craft beer drinker. That's kind of what this whole writing/blog thing is all about for this Seattlest. Hopefully, we can accomplish that.

Oh man, I was all excited about this Walking Man Brewery then realized I was confusing Stevenson with Lake Stevens. Oh well--I do go to Portland occasionally. I supposed it's sort of on the way.

My main resolution is to simply drink more beer. My friends call me the biggest beer snob who hardly ever drinks beer. I mean Bottleworks is 6 blocks from my apartment for God's sake.

ahh beer...

My resolution is to get drunk in every seattle neighborhood by the end of this year. I have a map. Its going to be lovely getting schlocked in Laurelhurst hahaha

Your first beer of the year was on the 10th day of the year? What were you doing the other 9 days? Or did you mean first *homebrew* of the year...

A little late on the posting of this one...wrote it on New Year's Day.

Although, I did go 3 days w/out a beer this week. I'm so damn proud of myself.
