Seattle Taxi Service Available Online
What is it about Seattle and innovative cabbies? It was a cabbie who co-came-up-with the idea for the monorail (along with a poet), and now we've got a cabbie jumping into the digital age: along with books, mp3s and pornography, you can now shop for cabs online.
Using TaxiDriversDirect.com, you can find direct contact info for cabbies by day/time. Screw central dispatch: call 'em direct (at least 30 minutes in advance) and arrange for them to come get you.
All taxi drivers are "specially selected" and, according to the site:
The Drivers listed here are all qualified, have at least five (5) years of driving a Taxi Cab here in Seattle and the surrounding areas. And, are fluent in the English language. Also, all Cabs are Insured and meet Seattle/King County Taxi Rules and Regulations. For your convenience, we have added some of the new For-Hire Drivers and vehicles all of which are govern by the same rules and regulations as our cabs.
Still, we have to admit that about the only time we use cabs is when we're hammered at a bar on a given Friday or Saturday night, and while we certainly intend to give the service a go (maybe jot down some cabbie numbers in advance--we don't got no fancy web-surfing cell phone yet), it just plain doesn't seem all that usable when we most need a cabbie. So for all you boozers out there, why don't you just take a minute to enter these numbers in your cell phone like us, so you don't end up like this guy?
