Sonics Sell Seattle Storm To Local Owners

saveoursonicsnew.jpgGreat news for Seattle Storm fans broke last night: Sonics owner Clay Bennett will sell the WNBA team to a local ownership group.

That group hasn't yet been identified, but we'll find out who they are at an 11am news conference today.

Bennett had said he wasn't going to separate the Sonics and Storm. Why'd he change his mind? Brian Robinson of SonicsCentral and Save Our Sonics speculates: "In general I think the 'divide and conquer' strategy may be what they are going for, but on the other hand this could be a real sign that he simply could not hold it together. I always expected him to hold this card until the last day."

The Storm were looking for a new coach, and supposedly were waiting for Bennett to review a list of possible candidates. Maybe he just decided he didn't want to run a WNBA team?

Stay tuned, we'll have more on this after the news conference at 11am.
