Get Out Next Wednesday: Is There Still Room For The Arts On Capitol Hill?
How about opening your big yap in person for a change? Join the panel discussion about how to keep a healthy arts community on Capitol Hill. Meet up at CHAC next Wednesday, the 16th, at 5:30pm and plot next moves over a martini.
As hosts the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce put it:
In 2007, the Urban Land Institute named Seattle the #2 real estate market in the nation (after Manhattan), and Americans for the Arts named Seattle the #1 city as measured by artists and arts organizations per capita. This combination means that we have the most artists and arts organizations per person, but the least affordable real estate for them to be able to survive.A driver for the discussion of course is the sale of Odd Fellows Hall, but the panel has bigger fish to fry, hoping to talk about the pros/cons of Public Development Authorities, 63-20 Financing, Affordable Artist-Preference Housing, Public/Private Partnerships, and Public Facilities.
Poobah panelists include: Susan Shannon, Director, Mayor’s Office of Economic Development; Michael Killoren, Director, Mayor’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs; Charlie Rathbun, 4Culture: King County ’s Cultural Development Authority (a PDA); and Randy Engstrom, Seattle Arts Commission and Director, Youngstown Arts Center.
Wednesday, Jan 16, 5:30-7pm // CHAC (Main floor) // Free and open to the public
