Updates of Shakespeare tend to make us yawn at best, or at worst, make
someone douse the theater with an accelerant and post a "Smoking Area" sign on the way out. But
Seattle Shakespeare Company's martial-arts cult take on
Julius Caesar (as
detailed in the P-I) may just find that rare middle ground where it doesn't blow
or suck. We're turning the concept over in our heads, and it seem like it could work. Director Gregg Loughridge pulled off
Richard III last season, so we're cautiously optimistic. Also, we like the SSC troupe and their space -- every seat is close to the action. This is a chamber version, with a stripped down cast and running time (a little over 2 hours). Tonight's opening night, we're gonna go and see and report back. If you're adventuresome, why wait?
Through January 27 // Seattle Shakespeare Company // Tickets $30-$34, with student/senior discounts
