Seahawks 27, A Pizza-and-Beer Gathering 6

This fall we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook. On Sunday morning, following a trip to a local farmer's market/major supermarket chain, we will be preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks opponent. Then at halftime we will throw our badly burned hands in the air and make hot dogs.

Seahawks vs. A Pizza-and-Beer Gathering Preview

Pizza2.jpgYesterday we made a pre-holiday meal of barbequed chicken and Canadian bacon and pineapple pizzas. All of that goodness because the holidays dump friends visiting from out of town into our basement to watch the Hawks.

For one weekend they are not subject to the humiliation watching of the small TV way in the back of the bar with the one other Seahawk fan in their adopted town’s metro area.

For them it's pizza dough and barbeque sauce from scratch. Why buy it when you can spend more and make an inferior product?

Luckily we learned how machines can make life hella easy for the aspiring chef. Instead of kneading dough, just find a Kitchen Aid mixer with a dough hook. Instead of slicing and dicing vegetables, just use a food processor. Instead of sitting on food until it is warm enough to eat, just use an oven.

Our barbeque sauce had us quite excited, because not only was it almost the same color of the real stuff, the finished product actually tasted pretty good. It is just a patient process of letting the all of the ingredients simmer until thick and tasty. Also, that cider vinegar is pretty potent stuff. Early on when we got a whiff of it our eyes watered, our nose constricted and we had vivid flashbacks to our childhood.

Our roommate Jason gave us plenty of good pizza making advice. Before we dumped the toppings on the crust he had us brush it with olive oil and then bake it for ten minutes. That way, he explained, the sauce wouldn't seep into the crust and make the final product soggy.

He also had us cook the chicken in our barbeque sauce for extra taste, and even suggested that if we wanted to continue cooking in our underwear and wolf mask that he would have to take a serious look at the lease.

What a magical time of year.
