Lingering Thoughts on Mariners' ‘Roid Freaks
How is it the sheepish David Bell lands on the list of supposed Mariners ‘roid freaks but five foot nothing, walking powder keg Bret Boone who hit far more homeruns than anybody his natural size had business hitting avoids this preliminary round of accusations? Everything we’ve been led to believe about steroids is wrong and exaggerated if the timid Bell was on the juice and the freakishly aggressive Boone wasn’t.
Seeing former Mariner pitcher Ryan Franklin make the list was a bit unsettling as well. Apparently steroids didn’t help Franklin’s fastball during his tenure in Seattle as evidenced by his inability to overwhelm batters or throw important strikes for that matter. Are we to assume that without the help of steroids Franklin may have been naturally pitching at a ninth grade level?
Let’s all just pray Ichiro’s surprisingly strong, albeit small arms don’t soon fall under suspicion.
