Get Out December: Hiphop
Okay, friends and neighbors. December is a huge month for local hip-hop, and not just because of Blue Scholars' The Program. This week, Chop Suey's got you covered for Monday and Tuesday with the Parker Brothaz tonight (GMK will be there! We love that guy!) and freestyle master Eyedea & DJ Abilities tomorrow night. Over in Fremont, Nectar's offering Waves of the Mind and Gabriel Teodros/Abyssinian Creole on the 13th (there are nine acts on the bill, as a heads up) and an apparently two-night-long extravaganza featuring One Be Lo and Grayskul (along with some big name producers and djs) on the 15th and 16th.
That's FOUR promising shows (not counting the second night of One Be Lo's partay) scheduled for the weeks before The Program at Neumos. Seattlest will now take a moment to hyperventilate, especially because because December 18th through the 22nd won't exactly be a light week for hip-hop. In fact, it will be jam-packed with Seattle's biggest acts. It will be a concentrated, sustained, exhausting (but not exhaustive!) journey through space and time and local hip-hop. We shall not emerge unchanged, nor shall we emerge with our hearing intact. Something else is certain: we shall be really grateful that we live within walking distance of Neumos.
On top of all that, it's Advent! And then, it's Christmas! Of course, we are spending all our money on hiphop this month, so everyone on our list is receiving nicely wrapped library books for the holidays.
In preview for tomorrow night's show, here is the very skilled battle rapper Eyedea at ScribbleJam in 2000 up against Brother Ali. See you at Chop Suey!
