Weekend Music

This weekend, it's all about Friday and Saturday; Sunday is the Lord's day, so music is taking a night off. Tonight, there's another great Canadian band, Immaculate Machine, at the Vera Project. The pop trio features Kathryn Calder, who just so happens to be the New Pornographers' Carl (A.C.) Newman's niece. Way to keep it in the family.

Meanwhile, the High Dive's got so-so-hot Chicago collective Scotland Yard Gospel Choir who, despite mountains of accolades, still manages to be enough of an underground secret to only have YouTube clips of questionable quality.

There's also BOAT and teh "Awesome" at the Comet tonight. You don't need a video to know you should be there.

Tomorrow night, if you don't already have your Sharon Jones tix, there's the KEXP Yule Benefit at the Showbox with Yeasayer, Dead Confederate, and local acts Feral Children and The Valley. There's also Portland's Chris Robley and the Fear of Heights at the Mars Bar.

Or head back to the High Dive for Loveless Records' free Holiday party. Get there early (5pm) for Carrie Akre and Voyager One, or show up later (10pm) for The Girls, The Blank Stares, and The Beltholes. Either way, it's capital-F Free. It's a good chance to see Voyager One, who was the label's first band and recently re-signed for the release of their upcoming album, Afterhours in the Afterlife, out next February.
