Winter Beer Fest and Other Excuses to Drink This Weekend

Besides the Big Wood Festival going on up at Brouwer's (which even exceeded expectations last night), this weekend marks the 3rd Annual Winter Beer Festival put on by the Washington Beer Commission.

The Winter Beer Festival is held at Hale's and will feature over 30 different winter beers from Washington brewers. It can get a little packed, but it's a great time and last year was a solid lineup.

This year keep your eyes out for the following:

Silver City 2006 Imperial Stout - A fantastic stout that should have mellowed a bit after a full year of rest.

Redhook German Winter Wheat - Why? Because we rarely see special releases from Redhook these days.

Rock Bottom (Bellevue) Naughty Elves Barrel Reserve - We like the funk. This Belgian style sour ale was aged in oak for over a year and cherries were added to the blend for some serious funkiness.

Lazy Boy Mistletoe Bliss - A nice spiced brown ale that's very drinkable. Yeah for Lazy Boy!

Stix Pool Shark Porter Extra (Smoke Chocolate Chipotle Porter) - Yeah....while this beer may sound a bit over-done, We get the feeling it will be right up our alley. We love smoke, chocolate and chipotle (if done right) in our beer.

Other Beer Events This Weekend

- Big Time is having their release party for Old Wooly Barleywine this Saturday. It will be available on tap and in bottles until it's gone. There could be a chance they'll have older vintages to sample as well (They did last year).

- If you're down in Portland this weekend, check out the Holiday Ale Festival through Sunday. The beer lineup looks great, and we've heard this is a fun festival.

Hope you'll be drinking some good beers this weekend!
