If you've been following Seattlest David's football and cooking series, you'd know that there's hardly anything more unlikely than that he'd be talking about cooking to a regional radio audience.
And yet, he will, today at 2:45, on the KUOW program Sound Focus--discussing a football-season-long odyssey in which he's cooked everything from deep-dish pizza to deep-fried ravioli.
Perhaps the most memorable moment in his odyssey was when David learned that unlike water, oil doesn't have to be boiling when you put something raw in it.
We must have stared at that pan full of vegtable oil for half an hour; finally we turned the burner from medium to high in hopes of some bubbles, nothing. Right before kick off we got tired of waiting and tossed a breaded ravioli in, just to see.If you want to book David for your radio program, you may want to do so soon before he dies from either a heart attack or a cooking accident. It looked like the scene from Austin Powers where the sea bass chew that guy’s head off. We quickly removed the now completely charred ravioli out of the killer goop, and turned the burner off. The rest were cooked at much more peaceful and lower temperature.
Now we know.
Tune in here at showtime.
