The Official Word: Showbox Ain't Going Nowhere

hangintough.jpg

Despite what you may have heard the past few days--scuttlebutt about the sale of the Showbox Market and subsequent consolidation of venues at the SoDo location--it turns out that the original (and best) Showbox is staying right where it is, thankyouverymuch.

Says Chad Queirolo, Talent Buyer/Manager for both Showboxes:

It used to be once a year an especially virulent rumor that the Showbox lease would end in March. This has been happening for at least ten years now! Unfortunately, the rumor now circulates on about a 90-day basis. It usually starts with a blog, and like the game "telephone," mutates until it eventually becomes an undeniable fact. We then field one or two hundred phone call from bands, band management, agents, radio, print, television, industry mags, etc. all asking why we are closing the following day? It's tremendously disruptive for any small business to go through this not once but a dozen times in a decade.

Please take note: The Showbox building has not been sold. We have a new five-year lease on top of our current lease at The Market location as well as a 15-year lease at the SoDo location. We hope this answers everyone's questions until someone after five drinks in any hipster bar winks and whispers,"hey, have you heard about the Showbox?" whereupon we will drop everything and address the rumor...again.

So enough with the rumor-mongering, people! Recognize.

Plus, they just updated the website. If a revamped calendar isn't proof of a long-term commitment, then what is?

Take a look at the calendar. It's no Nectar (what is?) but it's a quasi-improvement.

Why the subtle dig at bloggers? These rumors have been going on for "10 years", yet usually begin on a blog? Whatever. The only shows worth seeing are at the Everett Events Center anyway.
