Stalk of the Town - Thanksgiving 2007

menu.jpgThanksgiving doesn't allow for us Seattlesters to partake in our usual rock and roll lifestyles. Instead it's friends and family and mellow times about the house. Our drinking's liable to be more restrained and coordinated with a heavy meal of rich food. (Seattlest Geoff offered some choice beer recommendations earlier this week for those who've got a pit-stop planned on the way to grandmother's house tomorrow.) And according to the weather report, it's going to be cold but clear tomorrow, with morning to afternoon sunshine to make that drive a little more pleasant.

Dan's packing the car with friends, family, fancy desserts and the last of the Blackberry vodka infusion (which tastes better now than it did initially) and making for Bellingham.

Katie's Portland family decided to ditch a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and go to McMenamin's Edgefield instead. Katie, in turn, ditched them and will be cooking her very first Thanksgiving feast at her favorite cabin, The Homestead, on Orcas Island with her favorite boyfriend.

It's a family Thanksgiving in the wilds of Shelton for MvB, whose clan usually takes minimal time to savage a turkey rib-eye roast and cranberry jelly, and so he plans to return to Seattle in time to attend a booze-fueled round of evening Thanksgiving with a younger set.

Thanksgiving dinner at Jack's house is sure to be an event full of inappropriate comments from friend Joey, attacks on his character from sister Molly, and squabbles regarding the benefits of doing the dishes now versus later. The following day, he and his lovely wife will continue their new tradition, now in its second year, of staying home (not shopping!) and watching a film with friends -- a classic film they've never seen before. Last year it was Gone with the Wind. This year: Citizen Kane.

Trying to fend off the inevitable gluttony, Courtney will go for a mountain bike ride Thursday morning and then succumb to the feast later that day with the in-laws. Friday is a whole glorious day biking up north of Vancouver, BC.

Jeremy's house is becoming an orphanage this year, for four friends who aren't American and one who can't be bothered to get himself home for the holiday. Gruel will be served in lieu of the traditional Thanksgiving fare. Then Friday, he's off to Portland to visit old friends, meet their children, and likely carouse about his hometown.

Audrey will be spending her Thanksgiving on Bainbridge, which is sure to be full of island adventures.

The holidays are here and Charles is making an attempt not to be a total scrooge this year. As a part of that, he is off to see The Nutcracker at PNB Friday night followed by a fancy dinner with his wife. Saturday, he'll turn his ears back toward rock with Spanish for 100 at The Comet.

Despite being severely jet-lagged and coming down with a cold, Kim will wake up Thursday morning at the wee hours to find her place among the grueling masses in Herald Square for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. However, she’ll probably tire of the crowds and antics pretty quickly, duck out early and head back to Brooklyn for a quiet meal among friends. She’ll spend most of Friday night flying back to Seattle, where she will proceed to spend the weekend frolicking with her dog and being up for any awesome shows or activities that anyone wants to suggest she check out.
