The host kicked off trivia with theme music, and we were immediately jealous. If we can figure out how to play Darth Vader's entrance theme next time we host at the Old Pequliar, we're totally ripping off that idea.
The questions were a potpourri -- some geography, some mythology, some sports (with an emphasis on the Canadian). A few weren't as well written as they could be -- when we responded to "What body of water does Saudi Arabia border?" with "which direction?", the host was taken aback. And "What's the largest sea in the world?" has, per Google, at least five correct answers, depending on how you define "sea," so sticking with the Mediterranean was arbitrary.
But personality and a brisk pace make up for a lot. The host took everything in stride and kept things moving, finishing the quiz by 9:40. Oh, and if you tie with another team, you throw darts for the tiebreaker. Bring a ringer.
Our final score was 22 out of 40. A nearby team featuring a friend of a friend of Seattlest's apologized for the difficulty level, saying it wasn't typical, but everyone in the room seemed to have a good time regardless. Even during a brutal picture round: identify the military rank from the insignia. We managed 2 out of 10.
Mulleady's menu is extensive, and everything people on our team had was good. The fish and chips was crisp and lightly battered. The pear tartin was delicious. Our server was attentive and friendly. And they had Strongbow cider -- in a can. But we can overlook such a minor flaw when the overall experience is so good.
Nitty-gritty: teams are capped at 5 players, and it's $2/person to play. Winner takes the pot. Second place won $40 in bar credit, which we won't have a problem using. We'll be there again. Just not for Seinfeld night, next in a series of themed quizzes.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
