Rumor: Ain't No Cider in the Sad Sad City

Science on TapLast night the Old Pequliar was out of cider for the second week in a row. And we were sad, because we don't drink beer (sorry Geoff) and had to get through the quiz powered solely by a cheeseburger, criss-cut fries, and Diet Coke.

Then the bartender revealed a cruel truth: All the pubs in Seattle are out of cider on tap, at least until the 17th. "There was a bad shipment," he said.

One of the other bartenders said Molly Maguires has cider -- but only in cans. This led to a behind-the-bar discussion of the merits of canned cider vs. bottled cider, and we can only shake our head incredulously that someone actually prefers cider from a can.

Regardless, supposedly the city's collective cider spigot has run dry, at least until Saturday. We're skeptical by nature, though, so we have to ask: Is this true, or just a vicious rumor? We've got Aspall at home either way, but if the whole town's out of cider, well, wow.

No, that's not cider -- it's pdgibson's photo of Science on Tap. But we can dream.

This raises an interesting question: Being the nation's largest apple producer, why doesn't our state have any hard cider makers?

Seems like there's plenty of apples to make it with...

Good question. I assume someone somewhere in the state is making cider. Anyone have a suggestion?

Excellent headline, good sir. Well played!

I was at the Elysian last night and they had Taunton Blackthorn cider. As you know, the Black Taunton is the king of cider apples. King!

It wouldn't shock me to find out that only one kind of cider was unavailable. It seemed fishy to me that Blackthorn and Strongbow and Magners would all be affected by one bad shipment.
