Snowcap Recap: Presidents of the USA + Boat

SnowCap%20024_banner.jpgWe've said it before. It's impossible not to have a good time at a Presidents show. Seriously. You can try all you want. You can stand in the corner, scowling at everyone and thinking of all your dead relatives, but once that toe starts tapping, it's all over. Soon you'll be smiling and before long you'll be rocking out along with everyone else.

Such was the scene last Friday night at the Pyramid Alehouse Get Snowed In party. Whether you were there to get psyched about the upcoming snow season, to celebrate the arrival of one of our region's more robust winter ales, or just to listen to great music, the big tent outside the Pyramid Alehouse was the place to be.

DJ Radam and Seattle band, Boat, got things moving Friday night. One need only visit Three Imaginary Girls on any given day to learn a thing or two about Boat. Seriously, TIG loves Boat like we love the cool side of the pillow. To be honest, we hadn't heard much of Boat before, but we learned Friday night why TIG are so smitten with them. Energetic indie pop goodness with a heart of gold is how we'd describe them.

When the Presidents took the stage all hell broke loose. The crowd bounced, danced, screamed and of course, sang along to old school faves like "Lump" and "Kitty." From our vantage, we had a good view of the security staff struggling to keep the crowd back from the stage.

Unfortunately, one member of the pressing crowd was a big 'ol meathead in a bright yellow shirt. His grotesque, muscular arms pumped the air. He pointed and shouted at Presidents singer Chris Ballew. He was the perfect picture of an empty vessel and someday date-rapist. In between songs, Ballew commented to the meathead a few times. We didn't understand most of it, but did pick out the word "steroids" a few times, including the question, "How are those steroids working out for you?"

Highlight of the night: Presidents rendition of "Video Killed the Radio Star."
