Moron the Election

soreloserman.jpgWe really don't feel it's the day after an election until we overhear people talking about how they forgot to vote, didn't know there was an election, and how they'll definitely vote next time.

If they had been paying attention from August through this morning, they would have learned that Seattle voters will not let you drive 50mph down Market Street after a few drinks, but they will let you work for an anti-gay organization, even if you lie about the particulars.

This cycle of city council races always seems to provide more drama then the boring old Colin/Drago/Licata/McIver cycle that never changes--although we're guessing one of those four council members-for-life won't be up for re-election in two years.

Also we hate Tim Eyman--not only is he a giant dork, but because of him and 476,510 other fucking morons, any tax or fee increase may soon require a 2/3rds vote of legislators--meaning nothing will get done at the state level, and lawmakers will have to go to the voters every time they want to raise money. Hopefully the votes will shift as more King County votes are counted (wink-wink).

Prop 1 went down harder then we expected. We hope that the Sierra Club, Ron Sims, or some other politician pushes through a plan that will give the region transportation options in the near future, but that will never, ever, ever, ever, ever happen. So get a comfortable car, people.

Sorry, we are feeling pretty pessimistic this morning. We hate that people here want things fixed, but they don't want to pay.

For now we’re taking solace in an email from an out of state friend:

"Surprisingly strong defeat for Prop 1!! I was hoping it would be closer - decided by Monday night that I probably would have held my nose and voted for it, but now we can only hope that the defeat gives more attention to Ed Murray's proposal to create a new combined regional government to tackle this issue (and plan for housing!), without 'cobbling together,' favored projects, and asking voters for a regressive sales tax.

Unfortunately - that reform might take some years."

Montreal is one of the most vibrant, beautiful cities I've seen. If you can swing it, Troy, go for it!

  • I'm sure you all know who I hate. The east side of everything. Mostly over past the mountains and down towards Oregon.

Seriously, my mother has been a 2nd grade teacher for 35 years. CAN THEY GET LEVIES PASSED WITHOUT 60% NEEDED?

Apparently, now not even the state can. I feel that every measure written by Tim should have his name on it so people know to vote no.

I honestly started looking at jobs in Montreal yesterday morning. Fuck healthcare payments. I'll gladly pay it in taxes.

what type of a communist doesn't want a say in how "the government" can tax you?

Taxation is ILLEGAL, never ratified, and goes directly to offshore banks none stays in the country.

Partly, it might be a question of who has to pay to fix things: "Washington has the most regressive tax system in the United States. The lowest income fifth of the state's population pays 18% of their income directly and indirectly in state and local taxes, the middle class pays 11%, while the richest 1% pay just 3%."

Prop. 1 was funded by an increase in sales tax and car tab fees.

I'm tempted to walk out to the corner, in front of the ST HQ and ID tunnel station, with a sign saying "BUILD IT ANYWAY"
