Get Out Thursday: Dan Wilson at Nectar Lounge

When Semisonic's Feeling Strangely Fine came out in 1998, Seattlest was 18 years old and leaving the crushing open spaces of Wyoming for good. We liked the album then, but it wasn't until a year later -- this time leaving Phoenix, Arizona for good -- that we really fell in love with it. We were by ourselves, pulling a U-Haul trailer behind our '76 El Camino, and we were on our way to Washington state to start a new life.

It's a road trip we'll never forget. A thousand miles of letting our mind wander and a thousand miles of soundtrack, which included, quite prominently, Feeling Strangely Fine. With songs like "Gone to the Movies" and "This Will Be My Year", it was an album brimming with possibilities, hope and letting go.

Aside from keeping extremely busy writing and producing, Semisonic frontman Dan Wilson has just released his solo album, Free Life and will be visiting Seattle's Nectar Lounge tomorrow night in support of it.

Wilson opens for a Norwegian fellow named Sondre Lerche. Maybe you've heard of him. Among many other impressive things, he provided the soundtrack to the film, Dan in Real Life.
