Media Matrix

We have no doubt that one day we'll all live in little Matrix pods where a single media conglomerate will spoon-feed us newspapers, TV news, radio and, yes, blogs and collect our excreted dollars and votes for their own nefarious purposes.

Jay Inslee, however, thinks that future may not be inevitable, and blathers on about it below.

If you're of like mind get thee to Town Hall on Friday for the final public hearing on media ownership. The FCC is going to rule soon on whether one company can own a newspaper and a broadcast station in the same market, and testimony given on Friday could affect the decision. See ReclaimTheMedia.org for more.

I wish I wasn't so resigned to the "one world media" thing... Fact is I don't think there's much hope for the fight to keep one company from owning the major channels. I take for granted that the radio, tv, and major print media are already Rupert Murdoch's bitches. The best bet is to invest in the underground movements, the independent movements. Make sure the pirates get some money and some support so that they can stay competitive with their technology. Web neutrality is a huge fight right now too -- The internet's at least providing a technological platform for the underground, but that too could easily go by the wayside. Maybe we need an internet alternative. My idea: smoke signals!! No way to advertise on those bad boys.
