You may or may not agree with that sentiment, but one thing that's for sure is that of all the prog/math/experimental/rock amalgamations we've heard over the years, none have made our ears perk up so much as New York band, Battles.

If you haven't heard them on KEXP yet, hop on over to their MySpace page and give "Atlas" a listen. What starts out as a Marilyn Manson knock-off so obvious that it pushes the limits of parody, soon bends and folds into an acidic trip into a wonderland of driving rhythms, raucous beats and cacophonous vocals reminiscent of those algebraic dreams that drove us mad when we were in school -- and yes, we mean that in a good way.
