Get Out Thursday: The Pipettes, Nicole Atkins, Monster Bobby @ the Croc

Playing tonight at the Croc is Nicole Atkins, who we know from, um, American Express ads. But she's got a silver-throated voice kinda reminiscent of Hope Sandoval and/or Patsy Cline, so we'll let that one slide. Her debut album Neptune City just came out earlier this week and she was on Letterman Tuesday. Not all her songs are quite this Roy Orbison-ly grandiose:

We'll check out Nicole for sure, but we know better than to miss the Pipettes, everybody's favorite polka-dotted British girl group. We used to describe the members of the well-choreographed retro trio as "Blonde Pipette, Brunette Pipette, and Sassy Librarian Pipette," but if recent YouTubes are any indication, Gwenno has gone from platinum to red, so we'll adjust our description accordingly.

Opening for both bands is Monster Bobby, who acts as the Pipettes' Phil Spector, except without the shooting in the head.

9pm // Crocodile Cafe // 2200 2nd Ave // $12, all ages
