The Brag and Cuss Meets Like, Love, Lust

Some things go together so naturally that you wonder how they ever existed apart from each other. Peanut butter and jelly, Spencer and Heidi, the gays and Halloween. And now a musical double-header that seems to be a match made in heaven: Rocky Votolato and Jesse Sykes (and the Sweet Hereafter). Thanks to Barsuk (their shared record label), the two singer-songwriters are on the road together, and their joint appearances promise to be something special.

They’re both transplants that have called Seattle home for over a decade, and the life of the traveler has shaped their music....Both artists' work has been characterized by a compelling mixture of longing, dark depression, and hope. Jesse evokes images of damp fields populated with leafless trees and darkened rural roads smoldering with American folk idiom, while Rocky ventures into the territory of lovers, drinkers, and the distant oasis of a truck stop on a stretch of dark highway. Together, they’ll bring a night of broad pictures painted with a simple turn of phrase, and they’ll pull you into a world of reminiscences and feelings that are truly timeless and eminently human.

Rocky Votolato and Jesse Sykes play the Showbox this Thursday night. Seattlest has a pair of tickets to give away to the all-ages show. Enter to win by filling out the form below. No worries: Your info is safe with us and will not be shared with advertisers and/or the government, yadda yadda yadda. We'll be drawing one winner Wednesday at 10am.
