We Find This Abhorrent

DrDan.jpgSo we all know the world is going to hell in a hand basket, right? The climate's changing, San Diego is burning to the ground and we're at war because the president lied to Congress. Things are bad. But every once in awhile you come across someone who is doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do.

Dan Freeman is one of those guys. He runs Dr. Dan's Alternative Fuelwerks and sells biodiesel to many people in Seattle out of two locations. He was one of the first people in the country to try and earn a living from biodiesel--long before it was fashionable to drive an ancient diesel Mercedes--because he believes it's vital for the environment and for society that we try and break our addiction to fossil fuels as much as possible. Sure he's trying to make a buck, but if you're doing a good thing for the world, what's wrong with that?

So we were really pissed off to get the below message in our inbox today:

Last night someone stole over $1,000 worth of biodiesel by taking advantage of the prepay honor system at Dr. Dan’s. We need your help identifying the vehicle that was seen leaving the scene.

Someone was seen quickly leaving the station on 9th and 50th between 8:00-8:20PM on Sunday night (10/21/07) in a very well maintained Ford F250 flatbed truck. The truck is two-tone blue/white and has a red 300 gallon oval fuel tank mounted behind the cab. The vehicle did not have plates, and was spilling fuel as it fled because the driver did not put the gas cap on in their haste.

If you have seen this vehicle or have any information regarding this incident, please contact us immediately.

Thank you for your help!

C'mon people. Stealing biodiesel? If anyone saw something, please call Dr. Dan's right now.

Hmmm ...stealing from an honor system - not cool.

I don't know about the "doing a good thing for the world" bit though. How about doing a good thing for your neighborhood first. Have you seen what a hazardous dump he's turned his little fuel depot into lately? Not to mention turning the entire neighborhood into one large toxic waste site with all the fuel spills and oil spills from his trucks. I wonder if the fish enjoy that run-off?
