MAPClub.jpgOnstage 10:30pm. All very cute! New EP Baby I'm Yours (see discography). Jangly twee pop crossed with a dollop of Morrissey (i.e., over-literate sadsack drone w/happy-sunshine guitars). Title track here. Setlist blends together into long-but-listenable romantic up-and-let-down song. Liked "Do You Keep A Diary" -- cross-promo opp with Moleskine? Too much "ba ba-ba ba-ba ba"? Too little? NEED TO REHEARSE STAGE PRESENCE!

Charles, vox, guitar: pleasant tenor, on pitch mostly, all head voice, terrible posture, vox buried in mix. James, guitar: can't get little box to work. Messes around a few minutes to Charles' chagrin. Unplugs, replugs into other side of little box. Success! Ethan, bass: remarks to audience how LA reviewer said he felt so bad for them, couldn't make eye contact, had to stare at shoes. (?!) Saundrah, violin: terrific addition, warms up sound, very classy -- will kids know what violin is? Kevin, drums: only one not wearing glasses. Smallville hot.

Recommend: Strong showing in twee-niche, could help move those checked sweater vests and tartan skirts. Majority of women at show with same bobbed haircut, clunky glasses, voiced wish to "hold" band member of choice. Lack of power ballad issue. Periodic testosterone injections? (Check w/legal.)
