Eat The Bagels, Leave The Coffee

Vivace.jpgWe love the Frontier Frittata Bagel Sandwich at Frontier Café. We proved it here. Its tantalizing taste that embraces all things dairy and flour keeps us moving in the morning. With this in mind on our way to work, we were more than animated to receive a free espresso coupon from the kind employees at Frontier Café as we walked into our building on 3rd and Cherry, (we do NOT condone soliciting buildings with advertisements that usually end up a soggy doormat, but in the case of free coffee, we’ll make an exception). The original Belltown café wants to alert coffee lovers close the edges of Pioneer Square that a new coffee shop is in town serving Vivace Espresso -- “Downtowns Best Espresso.” Hmm, this was intriguing. We are Cherry Street Coffee House regulars and frequent visitors to Pegasus, so the competition is stiff. Vivace roasts a nice coffee bean, so we gave it a try.

Our experience was less than pleasant. Ugh, we were so looking forward to making Frontier Café our one stop breakfast/coffee place. The woman greeting us looked at our free espresso card and eyed it as if she was about the throw up in disgust. No hello, no how are you, and for a completely empty coffee shop, you would think this is not too much to ask. The barista was nice. The coffee was not so nice. We ordered an 8-ounce americano costing $2.10, if we didn’t have our handy free espresso card.

The espresso was not pulled correctly and left a burnt, moldy taste. An americano should pique senses with an almost nutty flavor that begins sharp but transcends into a smooth flow of sweet liquid. This tasted as if he poured hot water over dry coffee beans and left to sit for a week before heating in a microwave and serving. It lacked flavor. No splendid pizzazz.

We hope you experience the Frontier Frittata Bagel Sandwich, but wouldn’t recommend the coffee. We wonder if it would have been better if we were a paying customer. Thoughts?

For now, we will leave the coffee work to Cherry Street and Pegasus.

brappy: I agree with the attitude statement. Not sure what their intentions were for handing out free espressos if they don't like people.

I find that anything associated with Vivace comes with a nasty attitude. I avoid it because I don't like being lectured about how good they are and how bad I am. It's a very Seattle attitude and it costs them customers.
