Dark on the Hill Last Night

black.jpg

Man, you tend to forget what dark is in the city until the lights go out. Last night on the Hill we drove Roanoke which had no power, central Broadway which had power, Olive-ish Broadway which had no power and finally Pike/Pine which did. Where the power was out it was like a big blanket had been thrown over the area and the sky was somehow responsible for the lack of light. The dark spots seemed supernaturally dark (although, of course usually the opposite is true and they're supernaturally light).

And if you've ever felt that Seattleites had 4-way-stop issues, imagine them navigating it in the pitch black with many pedestrians. Not pretty. All of Seattle's lights are back on today, but some PSE customers are still waiting.

Adding to this; there's also the tree that fell and nearly hurt some people near Kent station and the guy who unfortunately died while fucking kite surfing on Lake Washington yesterday.

The ones I saw on Capitol Hill weren't even flashing. They were just totally dark.

What's really fun is when you are driving and the lights flash red, green, yellow all in unison. Confusing faces abound.
