Who Did Well at Seattlest Trivia Last Night?
Last night, in the middle of the movie round, Seattlest officially became old. "What Canadian actor, who died in Mexico, appeared in seven movies directed by John Hughes, more than any other performer?" we asked.
"Who's John Hughes?" we heard some people ask in response. The rebellious voice of your parent's youth, said our head.
Occasionally we figure Seattlest Trivia should have some Seattle trivia in it, so we did a Seattle round. The average score among 21 teams was 6.6 -- can you get 7 or better? (Answers are after the jump.)
1) What's the premier roller derby league in town?
2) What local university was founded in 1891 as the School of the Immaculate Conception?
3) Daryl Laub and Chris Wedes have both portrayed what beloved local character?
4) What candy was introduced by Frederick & Nelson in 1918?
5) What article of clothing was originally made from a pair of green military field pants, and was worn by Richard Hatch on Survivor: All Stars?
6) What local festival held each July started in 1982 at Green Lake and moved to Seattle Center in 1986?
7) The Seattle Pilots used to play at Sick's Stadium on Rainier Avenue. Now you can buy lumber on the site at what store?
8) In 1971, Bob McDonald and Jim Youngren bought billboards asking the last person leaving Seattle to please do what?
9) Beer Sheva Park in Rainier Beach is named after Seattle's sister city in Israel. Before 1977, it was named for what city in New Jersey?
10) Remember to honk when you drive by what high-risk auto insurance agency?
Other categories: Geography, Famous Duos, Answers in the Form of a Question, You Give Love a Bad Name, and the Movie round with a twist (9 actors, name the movie, rather than vice versa).
As for the results: 21 teams competed, though only 20 finished the quiz. (We missed you, Raul.) The winners: Air Bud 7: Doggie Style, who pulled ahead in the second half, finished with 73 points, and pocketed $125 for their efforts. Second: KOMO 4 Problem Causers, 71 points and $50. Third: The Fuckin' As, 66 points and $25. And Jews in Space edged out Our Team May Not Win, but At Least We Won't Die a Virgin in a fourth-place tiebreaker round, earning $10.
Next week, Metblogs' Naomi hosts. We return to the hosting chair on November 6, and from here on in (for the scheduled future), we're hosting the first Tuesday of the month. Except for January 1, because there's no quiz, so we're hosting the 8th. Confusing? Good.
