Get Out Tonight: Arthur & Yu @ the Tractor

Dear, sweet Arthur & Yu. The local band (on new Sub Pop pseudo-imprint Hardly Art) has dreamy duo Grant Olsen and Sonya Westcott at its core, with Bobby Wane, Ben Kersten, and Scott Blue rounding out the group. Their music is simple and pretty and straight outta the swinging 60s. So sez Gorilla Vs. Bear:

You know how on MySpace bands always list their "influences," and as you listen to the songs, you can't help but think, "yeah, not really. at all."? Well, that is refreshingly not the case with Seattle's Arthur & Yu....They've pretty much hit their influences right on: Lee Hazelwood & Nancy Sinatra, Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin, Nico-era Velvet Underground, etc. And while the influences are clear, the songs are never derivative or boring.

True dat. Arthur & Yu bring their mesmerizing melodies and wall o' reverb to the Tractor tonight with Thao Nguyen and the soothing indie folk of Ontario's Great Lake Swimmers.
