Mosby Farms: Don't Go for the Corn Maze

Big push
We had a good time at Mosby Farm's pumpkin patch on Saturday morning. The pumpkin patch was abundant, the wheelbarrows were plentiful, the hayride was free.

Little Miss Seattlest and her friend ran shrieking through the fields and got satisfyingly dirty. They discussed getting stuck in the muck when the tractor pulling the hayride got, well, stuck in the muck.

We bought pumpkins, and they're beautiful.

But the reason we went: the corn maze. We'd never been to a corn maze. We'd never noticed the phenomenon until we moved out here 14 years ago; whether that's because it's swept the nation since our midwest childhood or because midwest farmers have better things to do with their corn, we don't know.

Sadly, the Mosby Farms corn maze was an afterthought, only barely qualifying as a maze. True, you could walk in and lose sight of anything but corn for a few minutes. But the entire center of the cornfield had been flattened, which made it more of a corn arena with a few twisty little passages all alike than an actual maze.

So if you want to buy pumpkins, fresh corn, little hay bales, apples, flavored honey sticks, or other autumnal delights, we recommend Mosby. But if you want a corn maze, we recommend somewhere else. Anyone have a favorite corn maze they go to? (Bonus points for the southern end of the area.)

Craven Farm in Snohomish has a great corn maze broken up into 3 stages with varying levels of difficulty. My friends and I dress in all white every year and purposely fall down, push eachother, slide, into "mud" that most certainly at least cake the bottom of your shoes.

Forgot to include the link to their site.

I love the Farm in Snohomish, but I'm not sure if their corn maze really counts as a maze since the layout is the Washington highway system.

The Satsop corn maze down in Grays Harbor feels like a corn maze should -- like you're being pursued by creepy children in the middle of a cornfield.

Satsop Nursery -- Corn Maze listing

Dear James,

My name is Rosella Mosby and we own Mosby Brothers Farms. I would like to invite you back this year to experience the corn maze again, our treat. Unfortunately the fall of 1997 brought quite the wind storm that literally blew the cover off our tent and flattened our maze, then the elk moved in. Which is why it became a FREE maze, we couldn't justify charging for a maze that had been so damaged. You should not have been charged to enter it.

You can view our maze this year on our website, MOSBYFARM.COM. We would like for you to entertain the idea of revisiting us so that we can possibly influence your opinion in a more positive direction, since when you 'google' us your headline pops up and it reflects badly.

As farmers we make every effort to provide a good family experience for the people who are so kind to spend some of their precious weekend with us. Obviously some years are better than others. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

We LOVE Mosby Farms! The kids love it too! It is the best place to go in the south sound for fall fun! No where else I would recommend as highly!
