Get Out Tonight, Next Friday: Brad’s Back

It’s been five years since soft-rock-but-hard-when-they-want-to-be Brad has released a proper album, and about three years since they’ve played live. Now the local quartet (Shawn Smith, Stone Gossard, Mike Berg and Regan Hagar), one of our favorite bands anywhere, is back in action—they’ve got an album in the works and they’re playing NYC and Seattle this month.

And we’re pissed.

Brad hits Neumo’s on October 19, after headlining a Tim Robbins-hosted Huntington’s Disease benefit show in the Big Apple. (Charitable? Support the cause by bidding on this swanky stuff.)

Normally, we’d cancel the best-laid plans to make this show. We’d ditch a suicidal friend in their hour of need. But we’ll be in Chicago, escorting our fiancé to a wedding.

Yay. We’ll miss the debut of Brad’s "new" songs (originally recorded in ’04, listed here) and sweet old ones like this.

But wait—what’s this? A just-announced Seattle warm-up show? At High Dive? Tonight?

Courtesy of news-breaker Travis Hay: "There is no opening act for this show and Brad is slated to play for an hour. Five bucks to see Brad in a venue like The High Dive sort of makes it feel like 1993 all over again."

And that’s just how we like it.

Now we won’t spoil someone’s wedding day with our thinly veiled bitterness and rue.

Tonight: High Dive, 7pm sharp, $5 at the door. Friday, 10/19: Neumo’s, 8pm, $15 at TicketsWest.
