Get Out Wednesday: Chris Cornell & Earl Greyhound at the Paramount

EarlGrey.jpg

Earl Greyhound was scheduled to play the Croc way the hell back in January, but before they could bring their Zeppelin-heavy rock to town, they wrecked their van and cancelled the show. Boo. But now we have evidence to support our folks’ oft-spoken belief that (shitty) things happen for a reason: Greyhound is playing the Paramount Wednesday night—and they’re opening for Chris Cornell.

Greyhound is a NYC outfit we know almost nothing about, but people are impressed by their loud loudness. We hear they melted the faces off a Sasquatch crowd this summer. The comparisons to British, balls-to-the-wall, classic rock acts is enough to have us eagerly hunting down earplugs and an athletic cup. (And how cool is that Aaron Neville/Diana Ross/Shannon Hoon band photo?)

We are fluent in Cornell-ish, as you might have guessed. Bitch as we will about his Wal-Mart web feature, his recent eh of a solo album, Carry On, and his current male-model publicity shots… we just can’t quit the guy.

Cornell fronted Soundgarden, after all. He handed the world the beautiful gift that was Temple of the Dog. And Audioslave wasn’t as overblown or underwhelming as critics would have you believe—until Revelations. Euphoria Morning, his first solo effort, was incredible—not what anyone expected from the soaring singer and thus an undeserved and unfortunate commercial failure.

Given Cornell’s binge/purge, band/solo career, we’re guessing the former frontman’s gonna go all Temple of the Soundslave on his hometown crowd. And we’re fine with that. Stoked, you might even say.

Paramount Theatre, Wednesday 10/3, 8pm. Tickets $42.50 (before fees) at Ticketmaster—some appear to still be available.
