A Bernie Goetz of Our Own?
The article doesn't say exactly when this incident happened, but only that the five teens had just left a football game at Rainier Beach. We'll infer that it was after their home loss to Hale last Friday. Five teens started harrassing some guy on the bus, eventually trying to take his glasses. He retaliated with a knife. Four kids were treated for stab wounds and one had a dislocated shoulder.
There's some video of the fight that was shot by the bus's security cameras, and other passengers on the bus fingered the kids as the instigators. Both are likely to indicate that the knife guy was defending himself. Still, a dislocated shoulder and superficial cuts to the asses of some of the teens say that this guy immediately had the upper hand and took the opportunity to administer some payback, like he's probably riding around on the 7 all night fingering the knife in his pocket. Go for my glasses, I fucking dare you.
The other perspective--well supported in the this-world-has-gone-to-hell Soundoff cesspool section at the P-I's website--is that the guy is some kind of hero. If only he had had a gun, and had started blasting kids in the back of the bus, this world would be a safer, better place today.
