14 Minutes Feels Like Paradise

071904thisweekph1.jpgSeriously, a 14-minute commute by bus to downtown Seattle? That’s lucky, you must live in Seattle city limits, you are probably thinking. Well, we would like to inform you that thanks to Seattle’s improved underground roadway and the Eastgate Park & Ride, (which is a place we hold dear to our hearts) you can get from Bellevue to downtown Seattle in 14 minutes or less. We did it this morning and even had enough time for a frittata breakfast sandwich at Frontier Café. It doesn’t get better.

Now, Bellevue neighborhoods along the I-90 corridor have bragging rights for more than their Nordstrom Rack, unbeatable pho and four of the of the nation's top public schools. With six buses serving Eastgate Park & Ride to Seattle, you are never waiting more than 10 minutes for a bus.

Here are four things Bellevue-ites can now fit into life with their 14-minute commute:

* Eat more frittata breakfast sandwiches at Frontier Café on 3rd and Cherry (a Seattlest favorite).
* Get to your desk 15 minutes before other co-workers, feeling rested and bragging that your Bellevue commute is better than their Greenwood commute. It’s all about the love, people.
* Arrive home 20 minutes before your significant other who works on the Eastside and left work the same time.
* Bus home from work to change into sweats, bus back to Seattle to grab a sausage dog in the alley behind Qwest, and slowly walk to Safeco Field in time enjoy an M’s game.

We cannot promise the buses will not be PACKED, because trust us, the Eastside bug is going around.

@4, I lived in Seattle and worked in Bellevue for a solid eight months before I realized Bellevue was sucking my soul out of my body slowly and with malice. Tis not without reason the suburb-haters speak.

    "Bellevue! Ew.

Yes! It only took two comments to get he predictable, knee-jerk, too-cool-for-the-suburbs comment. Thanks, TroyJMorris!

Only if you can catch the 212. The 554 still takes forever and if you are trying to get to Seattle when it's not peak hours, the buses don't come very frequently. Not that I'm complaining, I just bike to the Eastgate Park and Ride and catch the 212 to Seattle.

  • Bellevue! Ew.

Thanks to the new I-90 on/off ramp next to the Eastgate P&R, Metro cut 10 minutes off my commute to/from BCC/Seattle. I can only speculate that the other on/off ramps located on other freeways (see Kenmore, Bellevue) will help other commuters just as much if not more.
