Seahawks 24, Cincinnati Chili 21

(This season we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook. On Sunday morning, following a trip to a local farmer’s market/major supermarket chain, we will be preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks opponent. Then at halftime we will throw our badly burned hands in the air and make hot dogs.)

Seahawks vs. Cincinnati Chili preview.

Cincinnati%20Chili%20After.jpgStaring at the list of spices we felt a bit dizzy-- chili powder, ground cinnamon, allspice, cumin (giggle-giggle). Seriously, cooking is that daunting for us.

Luckily one of our co-workers spent her high school years in suburban Cincinnati, and was able to use her hometown connections to pass along a packet of authentic Skyline Cincinnati Chili mix—most likely on sale at every Albertsons for 99 cents.

Cheating, ummm, probably, but we wanted to get off to a strong start. After all it’s a long season, and like the eventual Super Bowl champions we want to take every advantage that we can. The rest of the process was pretty easy, just dumping things into a pot, letting it cook for 90 minutes, making pasta and grating cheese.

Really, is cooking this easy? We felt like a f-ing moron for being terrified of a list of powders.

As for the finished product, on Friday we wrote that this style of chili reminded us spicy pasta sauce, and the taste is pasta-sauceish. However, much like our love making, there is a sweet hint of cocoa and cinnamon.

Also, when people hear chili and then get a plate full of pasta they get confused and violent. We calmly explained that just because they are used to a certain type of chili it doesn’t mean that something different is wrong--even though we agreed with them. Word to those in the Queen City, you’re famous for your pasta sauce, now give us back Griffey.

I'm not sure how you're gonna do General Tso's without a deep fryer.

Suggestion: mission-style burritos!! Who doesn't love burrito a la the mission?

    Cioppino!!

Since when did the 49ers move to New York?

Given the bravery with the spices this week, you might want to stick to something a bit more quintessential SanFran, Rice-a-Roni (ding ding!).

    Impressive.

    Oyster crackers.

The ridiculous amount of chesse on top.

    All truly authentic.

    Good job, gents.
