Get Out Tuesday: New PJ DVD Screening

Tomorrow, the biggest, bestest band to ever emerge from Seattle—there, we said it—releases a new concert DVD. You can buy (or Netflix) Immagine in Cornice (Italian for "Picture in a Frame") and watch it in the privacy of your own condo, or—lucky us—catch it big-screen-style at the Metro.

Cornice is a film from photographer-turned-director Danny Clinch, who knows from shooting big-shots (Johnny Cash, Tupac Shakur, Bruce Springsteen) and documenting their acts on film (Spingsteen’s Devils and Dust, Ben Harper’s Pleasure and Pain).

Clinch followed Pearl Jam through five Italian cities on their 2006 tour—Bologna, Verona, Milan, Torino, and Pistoia—capturing both stage performances and candid behind-the-scenes footage in every format from Super 8 to High Def. Given that scope, it’s surprising to see only 13 songs (plus three “bonus” songs) on just one disc, but we’re not complaining. And the off-stage stuff should prove compelling—a longer look at PJ out-and-about than the lucky glimpse we got in January.

Like their top-shelf setlists, the songs on Cornice span PJ’s 15-plus-year history, including "Alive," "Better Man," "Corduroy," and a five-city, one-track mix of "World Wide Suicide." Also included is, of course, "Yellow Ledbetter."

PJ fans and live music enthusiasts will enjoy Immagine in Cornice no matter where they watch it. But Eddie, Stone, Jeff, Mike and Matt (and Boom!) doing their magical, musical thing on the silver screen—that's a must-see treat.

Immagine in Cornice plays only once: Tuesday, 8pm, the Metro. Also at the Galaxy 12 in Monroe. Tickets, $10. PJ fan fellowship, priceless.
