On Par With Canada

When we were last up in Whistler, local stores had signs next to their cash registers that read: "Exchange rate: on par." We figured they just didn't want to bother with the shrinking exchange rate, but there still had to be one, right? We must still be in better financial shape than Canada, sheesh. No?

Oh. Long gone are those heady days when we first made pilgrimage to Whistler and emptied our wallets to the tune of 60 cents on the dollar. Now they're streaming down to shop in Bellingham (there's a "loonie" joke in there somewhere, we're just too lazy to make it) while we cringe at the cost of beer across the border. No, your eyes are not deceiving you, that's $21 for an 8-pack of Guinness. At least there's Duty Free, eh?

The Duty Free (tee hee hee... I said "doody") is the best place to shop for liquor when it is on sale. We'll have to see how the prices compare now that we've hit parity.
