<description>&lt;p&gt;I don&apos;t know that they &quot;cheaped&quot; on the installation of the rail (though they certainly &quot;cheaped&quot; on the South African granite!), but they did install a type of rail that LINK is incompatible with.  My understanding is that the technology driving LINK wasn&apos;t around in 1987.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

I thought I remembered reading about that but couldn&apos;t recall enough of the story to research and find references.

Pretty typical Puget Sound transit &quot;planning.&quot; hopefully this track lasts longer and actually works...
