The Greatest Mustaches in Seattle Mariner History
Coupla weeks ago we posited over on our sports-only blog that Ken Phelps had the best mustache in Mariner history. A couple readers had their own suggestions, among them Gorman Thomas, Alvin Davis, and Bill Plummer.
So we went into our Mariner media guides and scanned in the evidence. As it turns out, none of those guys have the best Mariner mustache in history.
Here's Phelps, Thomas, and Davis. We'd still take Phelps, but we can see an argument for Thomas and Davis.

Plummer's 'tache doesn't match up, but he deserves an award for longevity. That's him as a coach in 1982, and as manager in 1992.
Edgar had a pretty nice one (and a little mini-mullet) in the late '80s.
Worst mustache has to be a tie between 1982 Dave Henderson and 1984 Mark Langston. Henderson looks like maybe he's just never shaved, and Langston looks like "Shiftless Rustler #2" from an episode of Gunsmoke.
The undisputed kings of the mustache were the 1983 Mariners--and they also included the man with the greatest mustache in franchise history.
Left to right, that's Bill Caudill, Todd Cruz, Steve Henderson and, below them, Gene Nelson.
And the man who (and we don't think there will be any argument about this) sported the greatest Mariner mustache ever: Rick Sweet.
Jesus, that baby looks like a scientific experiment. And is it just us, or does Sweet look just a little bit like...
