Showbox SoDo Rises From the Ashes of Fenix
The number of rock clubs in Seattle isn't necessarily dwindling, but the number of rock club bookers is definitely trending down. First the staff at Neumos took over national booking at Chop Suey on the Hill, now the Fenix has gone away and their lease is being picked up by the Showbox.
The new venue will be called the Showbox SoDo. The OG Showbox is changing it's name to "The Showbox at the Market." Little birds have been telling us for over a year now that the Showbox, pardon, The Showbox at the Market, is going to find it difficult to renew their lease due to the high developability of the block they currently occupy Downtown (Oh, no! Where will people get their $13 doggie muffins?). If the unthinkable happens and The Showbox at the Market goes away can we start calling The Showbox SoDo simply "The Showbox" again?
Here's a video that gives a good look at what the Showbox SoDo looked like as the Fenix (after it was The Premier) and here's some 360 degree love courtesy of VRSeattle. According to the Seattle Times the new venue won't be hosting any music until the end of September, but there could be "sporting events" there prior to that. Here's anther video of the Fenix hosting Lucha Libre wrestling, a sporting event if ever there was one.
