I just got this comment card in the mail....

"Dear Friends around Lake Union,

The Workshop is an organization that works with both public and private clients for gala openings, festivals, parties and other special events. We are currently working with a client who is planning a private celebration for this Saturday, August 11th at Gas Works Park. As part of the event, there will be a short (7-8 minutes) fireworks display over the north end of Lake Union, as well as a special effect from a propane cannon that will look like a firework over the park. This is scheduled to take place around 9:45pm that eventing -- We are working closely with the City of Seattle Special Events office and wanted to let you know so that you are not alarmed and instead will have the opportunity to enjoy this brief firework display, which should be visible from most points around the lake. Sincerely,

The Workshop

Also: Propane cannon???

here's a portion of the email i received this morning about the "protest gig":

"They (Enjoy Productions) are looking for up to 15 actors to be faux protestors, possibly as part of an actual protest at the party. It is pretty strange, but also pretty easy. You show up at 7:00 pm at Gasworks wearing basic normal clothes, get a sign, walk
around for a couple of hours and you're done."

so, yeah, it's unclear if Enjoy Productions was hired by the party people, or perhaps by Wallingford residents that want to...let 'em know they don't like it?

Ha, awesome. You go, but spend the entire time making mental notes on all the lasting scars that will be left on the park while looking dour and standoffish.

How's this for speculation: Say you're a NIMBY Wallingford resident and then this afternoon you discover you've been invited to this ultra-exclusive, surprise party. Do you go, or do you protest?
