i've been watching this whole affair from afar, as someone who lived in seattle from 1994-2001, and while I think seattle was (and is) a great place, this bs with the sonics is really abhorrent.

the sonics have had a long history of yanking the chains of public officials, no matter who owns the team. in the 90s they got tons of public subsides for their stupid frakking key arena. They even lobbied to make sure that the size of the playing area would not be NHL compliant so they would not have to "share" the team with a potential NHL franchise.

the sonics can go to hell. seriously. seattle and the state of washington spent over a billion dollars on stadiums for the mariners, sonics, and the seahawks. ex-governor gary locke refused to do a thing for anyone but the seahawks. all the teams can sit on it and if they want to leave, fine, don't let yourself get blackmailed....the 49ers can stick it too

Thank you, guest angel--I've added a not above that Bennett had it right, but I'm still calling it "Key Arena"...you can't just fuck with the English language like that...I mean, really.

Of course, it's "KeyBank" that's the sponsor...what is the benefit in taking away the space between Key and Bank or Key and Arena? Greater "synergy" I suppose.

Attention "KeyBank" corporate executives: that branding firm you paid $30 million to? Yeah, they were blowing smoke up your ass.

The spelling of KeyArena is correct, but Clay is still a jackass. It's clear that he absolutely doesn't want basketball to remain in Seattle by being non-negotiable.

According to the Seattle Center, Sonics and Ticketmaster websites -- as well as Wikipedia -- the spelling is indeed (and annoyingly so) KeyArena.

Do you have different information?

Native Seattleite here - even though I haven't lived there since since 1980. But I've visited my family there probably once a year since.

The Colosseum (Key Arena if you must call it that) is one of the few great Basketball arenas left in the NBA if you ask me. I love watching games there. The Sonics won a championship there. I saw the Violent Femmes there - it's a great arena.

It will be sad to lose the Sonics - but even more sad to lose The Colosseum as a basketball arena. I'm sure the city can find another franchise to replace the Sonics - but I can't imagine losing the arena.
