We know that the weather has been rainy and overcast and downright crummy these last few days, but never fear: things are looking up! And just in time for this weekend's Capitol Hill Block Party, which over two days features three stages and nearly fifty bands.
One of the bands that we're most excited to see is Britain's The Cribs. Comprised of three brothers (twins Ryan and Gary Jarman on guitar, bass, and vocals, with baby bro Ross on drums), the frenetic family affair aptly combines the power of punk and the catchiness of pop into one gloriously polished and precise masterwork, their latest album, Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever. Check out the above video for first single "Men's Needs," which has already been banned by MTV UK for nudity and/or implied violence. That don't matter none; the track's already getting accolades from the likes of NME, who went so far as to claim that:
The larynx-shredding vocal, the needle-sharp guitar riff, the sexy, post-modern handclaps -- this is gold-standard indie-glam that is sure to delight anyone and everyone.... It's like "Mardy Bum" meets "Take Me Out" except with Kurt Cobain on vocals.
Seattlest has a pair of tickets for the block party on Saturday. Along with the Cribs on the Mainstage at 4:15pm, the full day's lineup includes scads of other great acts, like the Cave Singers, BOAT, Grand Archives, Pwrfl Power, Team Gina, Mirah, Fleet Foxes, Aesop Rock, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, and John Vanderslice, not to mention headliners Spoon. Enter to win tickets to the second day of the fest by filling out the form below. These are hard tix, and the situation is time-sensitive, so we're asking for your mailing address in order to send them out ASAP. No worries: Your info is safe with us and will not be shared with advertisers and/or the government, yadda yadda yadda. We'll be drawing one winner Wednesday at noon.
