Local Dems Endorse Our Sweet Youth
We’re only going to be in our twenties for the next three weeks, so lately we’ve been trying to feel younger--and there is no better place to accomplish this than at a local district Democrat meeting. Once again we were one of the youngest people in the room. We love you sweet, sweet democracy.
What always strikes us about these meetings is how hard it is to find parking, and all the wasted paper from campaign literature. All this earth destruction is, we assume, intended as payback to Al Gore for the way he ran his 2000 campaign.
Endorsement meetings get testy. Here it's brother against brother, labor against environment, bike lanes vs. who supported Nader in 2000.
There are five City Council races this year, and a whopping two that should actually be close (huge for Seattle). Sally Clark, Tom Rasmussen, and Jean Godden all have their jobs locked down for another four years, and just show up to be seen.
Incumbent David Della is up against former detective Tim Burgess while consultant Venus Velázquez is running against lawyer Peter Harrell for Peter Steinbrueck's seat.
Here is how the democratic districts endorsed them:
34th— Burgess and Velázquez
37th— Della and Harrell
43rd— Neither for the primary
46th— Dual, all will try again for the primary.
36th—They apparently owe register.com some money, however, you can still visit the site for amazing credit card offers and a chance to win two free iPod Nanos.
The Slog has the analysis that escapes us, you can get information about registering to vote here, and if you’re just looking for a delicious way to enjoy blueberry bundt cake, might we suggest looking here.
The primary is August 21.
