Win Tickets to the Magic Bullets @ High Dive 7/25

While you are now officially unable to see Hootie and the Blowfish this weekend in Roslyn, WA (get well soon, Hoots), next week offers a great show at the High Dive. And it's on a Wednesday night, so you don't have to contend with the mongrel hordes and/or white-capped frat boys that inhabit the Fremont environs every weekend.

Magic Bullets formed in San Francisco a couple years ago, and the sextet's first album a CHILD but in life yet a DOCTOR in love came out on Minneapolis's Words on Music label earlier this year. It's a solid debut (see above video of lead-off track "Yesterday's Seen Better Days"), and if we were to give a glib summation of their sound, we'd pigeonhole them as The Strokes meets The Walkmen--jittery rock rhythms coupled with articulate lyrics churning into some ultimately upbeat indie pop-rock. We've heard comparisons to such diverse acts as Band of Horses (agreed), Hot Hot Heat (no), Talking Heads (kinda), Gang of Four (sure, why not), and Joy Division (no way). Apparently, the band is everything to everyone, while citing such influences as Felt, Orange Juice, the Smiths, and everything from London's C86 wave (like the Wedding Present).

Enough of the jib-jab; you should see these guys live. Seattlest has two pairs of tickets to next Wednesday's 21+ Magic Bullets' show. Just fill out the entry form below for your chance to win. No worries: Your info is safe with us and will not be shared with advertisers and/or the government, yadda yadda yadda. We'll be drawing two winners Friday at noon.
