Seattle Native Is Mother of 70-Year-Old Al D'Amato's Baby
Al D'Amato isn't a U.S. senator anymore, but continues to act like one. D'Amato's fathered a child at the age of 70, which is four years shy of Strom Thurmond's record, but nothing to sniff at.
The mother, Katuria Smith D'Amato, 41, is a local girl. The New York Times recapped her background when she married D'Amato in 2004.
The bride graduated cum laude from the University of Washington and received a law degree from Seattle University, also cum laude. She is a daughter of Joann J. Hicks of Marysville, Wash., and the late Warren W. Smith. Her mother worked until July 2003 at Boeing, the aircraft maker, in Everett, Wash., for which she was a training specialist in human resources. The bride's father was a tooling coordinator in aircraft manufacturing there.Smith is also somewhat well-known for suing the University of Washington's Law School, claiming that she failed to gain entrance because she was white. She lost.
But, as the blogger Sisyphus Shrugged points out, Smith somehow "managed the difficult trick of being deeply oppressed by racism and sexism ... to pull up her socks and make something of her life."...like getting impregnated by a Senator thirty years her elder. Marysville pride!
